HUGHES CEMETERY - BAKEWELL, TENNESSEE

Hughes Cemetery is a very old graveyard located in the Bakewell Community of north Hamilton County. From Old Hwy 27 in Bakewell, take Retro-Hughes Rd west. Travel 2/10 mile and see cemetery on the left before railroad tracks. The historic graveyard has a rock wall and was well maintained at the time of the survey. A sign in the cemetery reads: "In this cemetery lie the remains of John Hughes, Jane Skiles Hughes and Nancy Hughes Hixson." Pioneer settler, John Hughes, founded the community of Bakewell and its original school and church. He donated the land for the church and school plus land for Southern Railroad to lie tracks thru the community. Survey performed in July 2001 by Linda Coulter and Jim Holcomb (JHOLC19593@aol.com).

The following data contains notes from the genealogical files of Jim Holcomb.
